The Certified Laser Professional (CLP) Examination has been developed following accepted testing procedures and the generally accepted principle that multiple-choice questions are the fairest and most objective way to evaluate a large grouping of people. This is especially true of laser hair removal professionals whose training has been so different and vocabulary usage so varied.
The Allied Beauty Experts CLP Examination is made up of 100 multiple choice questions evaluating the test-taker in six areas:
SECTION I - LASER BASICS - 25 questions
What the laser hair removal professional should know about how laser light is produced, different types of laser hair removal systems, how photothermolysis destroys follicles and hair shafts, etc.
SECTION II - HAIR STRUCTURE & SKIN - 20 questions
What the laser hair removal professional should know about hirsutism, the growth of hair, skin layers, skin lesions, the Fitzpatrick Skin Phototypes, etc.
SECTION III - LASER HAIR REMOVAL SYSTEMS - 10 questions
What the laser hair removal professional should know about the variable parameters of laser units - fluence, pulse width, repetition rate, spot size, laser modes, etc.
SECTION IV - LASER SAFETY - 10 questions
What the laser hair removal professional should know about the ANSI Z136.3 standard, the Nominal Hazard Zone, ocular protection, treatment area safety precautions, signage requirements, etc.
SECTION V - LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT - 25 questions
What the laser hair removal professional should know how to do and evaluate in order to safely perform an effective treatment, including patient selection, contraindications to treatment, preparation, equipment settings, shaving, cooling methods, handpiece technique, post-treatment procedures and issues.
SECTION VI - GENERAL - 10 questions
Among other issues, what the laser hair removal professional should know about basic microbiology as it applies to laser hair removal, general hygiene requirements of the treatment area, etc.
